RESULTS
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Iowa State swimming and diving squad posted four event wins Saturday as it fell 200-100 to Nebraska at the Devaney Center Natatorium. The Cyclones (4-3, 0-0 Big 12) posted three individual events wins and a victory in the 200 medley relay over the Cornhuskers (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten).
Freshman
Amanda Paulson had one of her closest calls in her pursuit of an undefeated slate in the 50 free Saturday. Paulson edged out NU's Ariel Weech in the sprint, touching the wall in 23.82 compared to Weech's 23.84.
Imelda Wistey posted a sweep of the breaststroke events on Saturday. Wistey was first to the wall in the 100 breast, going 1:05.22 before blowing past the field in the 200 breast with her 2:23.20, over one-and-a-half seconds faster than her closest competitor.
The Iowa State divers made positive progress in spite of not posting a win on either board.
Sarah Nelson made a move up the school-record books on 1-meter as her second-place score of 288.30 moves her to fifth in school history in the event.
Nelson and
Jessica Henderson were close to their career best scores on 3-meter. Henderson took fourth place on the board with 284.70, only seven points of her career-high. Nelson was right behind her in fifth with a six-dive score of 283.43.
Iowa State returns home for a two day dual meet against Big 12 rival Kansas on Friday Feb. 3 and Saturday Feb. 4. Day one competition begins at 6 p.m. CST while day two action kicks off at 10 a.m. Prior to competition on day two, the five senior members of the squad will be honored in a ceremony.
