ATHENS, Ga. – The Iowa State divers completed their first day of competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational Tuesday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Cyclone divers competed on the 1-meter board.
The Cyclones were led by
Sarah Nelson's 18th-place finish with a score of 202.05.
Jessica Henderson was close behind in 21st with 192.10.
Jenn Botsch took 23rd with 184.55.
“We had a good warm up and I thought they were prepared,” diving coach
Jeff Warrick said. “In the meet, things just kind of fell apart. Some had good tops and just did not finish. We have to finish our dives regardless of how a top felt or anything like that. We stress kicking tight and lining up right and when it comes to the meet, we still have to do those things.”
Freshmen
Dani Davis and
Megan Cohea took 26th (169.10) and 27th (164.85), respectively while
Marley Dobyns rounded out the Cyclone effort in 29th with 163.20.
“We are looking forward to tomorrow,” Warrick concluded. “We are excited to be here and want to compete well.”
Day two of the Georgia Diving Invitational is tomorrow with 3-meter diving. Prelims start at 10 a.m. CST with finals immediately following.
