AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State swimming and diving team will host its annual intrasquad meet Friday at 6 p.m. DST at Beyer Pool. Admission is free.
After an exciting and successful meet against alumni last weekend, the Cyclones are excited to be back in the water with friendly competition against teammates. The evening will create a race atmosphere and the team will be able to enjoy an evening of fast paced times and a scored meet for the first time this season.
“It's always a fun meet because we split the team up and they can talk smack to each other all week long,” head coach
Duane Sorenson said. “It's a good intrasquad rivalry and we have a lot of people that will be swimming races that they will probably never swim during the season. It's a chance to get up and swim in a meet setting and get out of the dulldrom of training day after day.”
The team will see its first chance at great competition between the Gold and Cardinal teams before the first formal meet of the season against the University of Minnesota on Friday Oct. 12 in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Cyclones has been training at their endurance phase of the season, preparing for the high fitness level they will see during the second half of the season. The team is really working on aerobic endurance, as well as working on their technique before beginning their speed work later this season.
“This meet is a chance for our newcomers to get use to how we run our meets and we just want to see where we are at in our early season training,” Sorenson said.
