TOPEKA, Kansas-The Iowa State swim team finished its second day at the Kansas Classic Saturday at the Capital Federal Natatorium in Topeka, Kan. The Cyclones finished the day holding fourth place with a score of 286. The University of Notre Dame leads with a score of 667.5.
“We raced really well today,” assistant coach Kelly Nordell said. “The women are tired, but there is great competition here with Notre Dame, Rice and Nebraska. They really did a great job with racing positive and hard. I saw a lot of good things and a lot of things we need to work on, but overall I was pleased with their fight.”
Imelda Wistey led the Cyclones for the evening placing second in the 100 breaststroke event. Wistey touched the wall with a time of 1:04.50.
“Imelda swam pretty well tonight,” Nordell said. “Her stroke and technique were a lot better tonight than this morning. She got right behind one of the top breaststrokes in the country, so she did a really great job.”
