Dual Season Begins Sunday Against Old Dominion

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State wrestling team will open up its dual season on Sunday at 1 p.m. as it hosts Old Dominion at Hilton Coliseum.
The Monarchs come into the match with a dual record of 1-0 on the year. In its first dual of the season on Nov. 16, Old Dominion defeated Wisconsin 19-12.
Old Dominion is currently ranked No. 25 in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Monarchs' lineup features four ranked wrestlers, one of which is a Des Moines, Iowa native. John Nicholson, who is ranked No. 19 by InterMat at 157, attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines where he was a two-time state champion.
A number of notable matches will be taking place Sunday. At 141 pounds, No. 18 Luke Goettl will face No. 16 Jordan LaValle. At 133 pounds, highly touted freshman John Meeks will be making his Cyclone debut against No. 16 Scott Festejo. At 125 pounds, No. 15 Ryak Finch will be going up against No. 18 Jerome Robinson.
Redshirt junior Boaz Beard will be making his 2012-2013 campaign debut Sunday. He was held out of the Cyclone Open on Nov. 10 due to a decision made by head coach Kevin Jackson. Beard is currently ranked No. 16 by Intermat and No. 15 by W.I.N. Magazine at 184 pounds.
