Track and Field Begins Season With Holiday Preview

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track and field team opens the 2012-13 indoor season Friday with the Holiday Preview meet. The event will take place at the recently re-surfaced Lied Recreation Center. This will be the first track and field meet to take place on the new surface.
The 60-meter hurdles of the pentathlon will kick off the meet at 10 a.m. CST. The women's weight throw will begin the field events starting at 2 p.m. Running events will start with the women's 5,000-meter run beginning at 3:20 p.m.
Iowa State head track and field coach Corey Ihmels is excited for the season to begin.
"It's a good chance for our sprinters, jumpers and throwers that have been working all fall without any competition," Ihmels said. "It will be an opportunity for them to get in some real competition and see how their fall training has gone. It's a good indicator for us as we head into the Christmas break to see where our groups are at and see what we need to work on over break. It's a great chance for everyone to compete."
Teams scheduled to compete with the Cyclones include Central College, Drake, Graceland, Hannibal-LaGrange, Highland CC, Kansas City CC, Lincoln (Mo.), Missouri, Mount Mercy, Nebraska-Omaha, North Iowa Area CC, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, NW Missouri State, Simpson, Truman State, William Penn.
Results will be posted on cyclones.com following the meet.
