10 Cyclones Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference announced its Academic All-Big 12 Swimming and Diving team Tuesday. Iowa State is well represented with 10 honorees, including nine first-team recipients.

Highlighting the group is diver Sarah Nelson. The Decorah, Iowa native was nominated with a 4.0 grade point average, one of six student-athletes in the league to earn the distinction. This marks Nelson's third time earning first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors.

Joining Nelson on the first team are seniors Mandi Caudle and Meredith Doran and juniors Bri Carlberg, Marley Dobyns, Dani Harris, Sarah Norris, Marley Suckow and Tiana Wollin. This is Caudle's third academic award and Doran was elevated to the first-team after earning second-team honors the last two seasons. Suckow is making her Academic All-Big 12 debut while her fellow juniors all earned the honor for the second time.

Sophomore Alex Gustafson earned her first career Acadmic All-Big 12 award as a member of the second-team.

To be eligible for the first team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 GPA cumulative or for the past two semesters. Qualifications for second team honors include a 3.0 GPA either cumulative or for the past two semesters. A student-athlete must also compete in 60 percent of the team's contests to be eligible for either first- or second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Freshman and transfer students, however, are not eligible to receive the award in their first year of academics at an institution.
