Six Cyclones Claim Academic All-Big 12 Honors

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State claimed the most honorees for the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 wrestling team with six total members, including three first-team members. The Big 12 conference announced Wednesday 20 student-athletes chosen across the league for the team, the most since the 2009 season.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Iowa State first-team members include sophomores Boaz Beard and Brandon Jones, as well as senior Andrew Sorenson. Beard is majoring in kinesiology and Jones is a finance major. After receiving his undergraduate degree in kinesiology, Sorenson is now pursuing a graduate degree in higher education.
Redshirt freshman Mikey England, Kyle Simonson and Chris Spangler were chosen as members of the second-team. England is a business major, Simonson an animal science major and Spangler is currently in the graduate accounting program.
