Cyclones Kick off ISU Classic with Heptathlon, Pentathlon

AMES, Iowa – The annual Iowa State Classic began for the Cyclones with heptathlon and pentathlon competitions Thursday afternoon inside the Lied Recreation Center. Through four events, Ethan Wilkins, competing unattached, leads the Cyclone men, while freshman Bree Woelber finished 12th for the Cyclones with 2,662 points in the pentathlon. Emily Pearson, competing unattached won the pentathlon with 3,905 points.
Wilkins was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash and long jump competitions and will head into day two of the heptathlon second overall.
Sitting in seventh through four events, Cyclone freshman Taylor Sanderson, competing unattached, posted personal best marks in the 60-meter dash (7.38) and the shot put (34-09.50)
Through the pentathlon's five events, Woelber posted personal-best marks in the 60-meter hurdles (9.22) and the shot put (31-02.50).
The Iowa State Classic continues tomorrow with the conclusion of the multi-event competition and all non-seeded events. Multi-event competition will resume at 9 a.m. CST. Non-seeded events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's long jump.
