TUCSON, Ariz. – Iowa State's multi-event specialists concluded competition at the Jim Click Multi-Event Shootout Friday inside the Roy P. Drachman Stadium. The Cyclones were once again by senior decathlete
Jamal Currica as he recorded a ninth-place finish in an extremely competitive decathlon field, where the top-four finishers were post-collegiate athletes.
Currica recorded 6519 points through the 10-event competition. Damian Warner from the London-Western Track and Field Club won the decathlon with 7977 points.
In the final event of the competition, Cyclone redshirt freshman won the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:29.40. Harmeyer recorded 5218 total points to finish 14th overall in the decathlon.
In their first collegiate heptathlon, redshirt freshmen
Kelly McCoy (4458 points) and
Hannah Willms (4267 points) finished the multi-event competition 21st and 22nd, respectively. Nike's Bettie Wade won the heptathlon with 6143 points.
In the first event of the day, McCoy set a personal best mark in the long jump (16-09.25) bettering her mark set last season of 15-11.75 as an unattached competitor.
The Cyclones return to the West Coast next weekend for the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
