Cyclones Currently Fourth At Big 12 Championships

AUSTIN, Texas- The Cyclones finished fourth with 60 points in day one of competition at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Host Texas leads with 80 points.
To start off the evening, the 200 medley relay team of Sarah Norris, Imelda Wistey, Kaylee Kucera and Amanda Paulson took third, finishing with a time of 1:40.83. The team posted the fastest time of the season as well as the second-fastest time in Cyclone history.
“I was very pleased with their 200 medley relay,” head coach Duane Sorenson said. “They had the second-fastest time in history and they had great splits. Amanda split a 22.25, the fastest anyone has done in Iowa State history. Kaylee did great for a freshman and Imelda was her solid self. Sarah Norris also led off with her personal best time, so overall it was a great swim.”
The Cyclone 800 freestyle relay team of Sarah Deis, Kristy Kunkel, Bre Carlberg and Samantha Fossum took fifth with a season-best time of 7:29.32, the eighth best time in Cyclone history.
“The 800 freestyle relay was really solid for those young women,” Sorenson said. “Sarah had her best time, Bre had her fastest split ever as well. She went out a little too hard and tightened up, but I think she learned from that and Kristy had a great leg as well as Samantha.”
Day two action begins Thursday at 10 a.m. CST. Individual prelims include the 500 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 freestyle. 1-meter diving prelims begin at 1 p.m. and finals will start at 6 p.m. with the 400 medley relay.
