Saina Breaks 5,000-Meter Run School Record

PALO ALTO, Calif.- Cyclone Betsy Saina broke the 5,000-meter run Iowa State school record with 15:12.05 on Friday at the Stanford Invite.
Previously the record was held by Lisa Uhl with 15:17.76 in 2010. Uhl finished fifth with a time of 15:29.64. Meaghan Nelson clocked a time of 15:51.63.
Edwin Serem led the Cyclone men at the Stanford relays in the 5,000-meter run. Â His personal best time 14:21.39, was good enough for fourth place in the race.
Troy Walls ran a personal best time of 14.98 in the 110-meter hurdles. Â He finished ninth in the race. The Iowa State athlete also competed in the high jump finishing 10th with a mark of 6-07.00.
The Cyclone women were in the field events by Danielle Frere in the shot put with a mark of 51-01.00. Â
Hayli Bozarth finished eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 181-01.00.
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Alec Baldwin set a meet record in the 1,500-meter run with a personal best time of 3:49.73.
Ese Okoro led the Cyclones at the Texas Relays with a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 57.82.
The Cyclones will resume action in all three meets tomorrow. Â Results will be available on cyclones.com at the conclusion of the meet.
