AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (4-1, 0-0 Big 12) notched dual meet wins over North Dakota (7-2, 2-0 Big Sky), 198.5-98.5, and Nebraska-Omaha (0-7, 0-1 Summit), 224-73, in Beyer Hall.
ISU's 4-1 dual meet record marks the program's best start since the 2010-11 season when the Cyclones claimed five of their first six meets. The Cyclones are now a combined 19-0 all-time against UND and UNO.
“They have some very outstanding women on their teams, we just out swam them,” Iowa State head coach Duane Sorenson said. “It went the way we would want it to go, but you never know until you step onto the blocks.”
With first-place finishes in 13 of 16 events, the Cyclones took a pair of decisive victories over UNO and UND. The Iowa State swimmers also posted an impressive performance against the clock, as nine season best performances were recorded.
“I'm very pleased with where we're at, but TCU next week is just going to be a battle,” Sorenson said. “We're right where we want to be, we've just got to keep it up.”
One of the Cyclone swimmers to post a season-best performance was Bre Loeschke with a time of 0:57.47 in the 100 backstroke. Loeschke also touched second in the 200 backstroke behind teammate Marissa Engel.
“Obviously there is always room for improvement, but I've been working really hard, we've all been pushing ourselves and working on the little things,” Loeschke said. “I was happy with the little things I was able to do in the race, remembering to relax and not try to hard.”
Elyse Brouillette swept the boards with a pair of first-place finishes for the Cyclones, scoring 276.60 and 265.25 in the one and three-meter events, respectively.
“As far as the double dual, with the chaos, noise, starts, stops and all those kinds of things, I thought they did really well. I don't think that ended up being too much of a problem,” head diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “I thought they did a good job staying focused.”
