TOPEKA, Kansas -- After day one of the Kansas Classic, the Iowa State swimmers sit in second-place out of five teams behind the host team Kansas.
The Jayhawks posted a team total of 380 points to ISU's 296. Northern Iowa, Nebraska-Omaha and Tabor College are currently in third through fifth-place, respectively.
The Cyclones opened the day one finals session with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:35.33, a new team best on the season.
Jayhawk sophomore Chelsie Miller led the charge for Kansas notching a pair of wins in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM in times of 4:55.16 and 2:04.23, respectively. Iowa State sophomore Karyl Clarete gave chase in the 500 freestyle, but fell short with a time of 4:57.56.
Senior Amanda Paulson tallied another career win in the 50 freestyle, touching in a time of 0:23.52. Paulson outpaced UNI's Molly Lembezeder who claimed second-place in the event with a time of 0:23.79.
The Jayhawks wrapped up day one of their invitational with a win in the 400 medley relay.

The Cyclones will be back in the water at the Federal Capitol Natatorium at 10 a.m. tomorrow for day two preliminary events.
