AMES, Iowa – The weekly awards continue to pile up for the Iowa State swimming and diving team, which claimed its fourth weekly award of the season with junior Amanda Paulson's Big 12 Swimmer of the Week award, the Big 12 office announced today.
En route to her first career Big 12 weekly honor, Amanda Paulson claimed three first-place finishes on Friday and Saturday for the Cyclones against conference rival Kansas. Her second-place finish in the 200 medley relay was the first time she hasn't won the event in dual meet competition since Nov. 1, 2013.
Paulson was a part of 33 of the Cyclones' 163 points over the two-day event. The school record holder in the 50 freestyle notched her 25th career first-place finish in her signature event with a time of 23.13.
Paulson's other two first-place finishes came in the 100 freestyle, where she touched with a time of 51.46, and in the 400 freestyle relay, where she swam the fastest leg for Iowa State with a time of 51.19.
The weekly honor extends the school record to four Big 12 awards for the season. Prior to this season the most Big 12 honors Iowa State had garnered was two in a season.
The Cyclones return to action on Feb. 26 for the first day of the Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship in Austin, Texas.
