ORLANDO, Fla.- The No. 21 Iowa State women's golf team fired a first-round 292 at the UCF Challenge this afternoon. The 292 tally has the Cyclones in a tie for eighth place in the 19-team field heading into the second round. The host team, UCF, leads the tournament at 282.
In the medalist race, UCF's Fanny Cnops is the first-round leader after shooting a 5-under 67.
Sophomore Cajsa Persson paced the Cyclones in the first round, firing a 1-under 71 to place her in a tie for ninth individually. Her round consisted of three birdies in the first five holes. Persson is looking for her fourth top-10 showing of the season.
The Cyclones were also lifted by the play of senior Sasikarn On-iam and junior Chonlada Chayanun. The duo carded identical rounds of 73 to sit in a tie for 26th.
Senior Prima Thammaraks is tied for 49th after shooting a 75.
Round two will be played tomorrow, followed by the third and final round on Tuesday.
