AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior breaststroker Imelda Wistey was selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Championships, the NCAA announced today. Wistey will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, becoming the first Cyclone swimmer to qualify since Nan Liu earned a ticket to the 2010 championships. The NCAA Championships take place March 20-22 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center
Since transferring to Iowa State from Grinnell College after her freshman year, Wistey has racked up 68-career first-place finishes and 86-career top-three finishes in her three seasons in the cardinal and gold. Wistey tallied 24-event wins this year – 17 coming in the 100 and 200 breaststroke – leading the Cyclones to seven dual meet wins and the highest team finish at a conference championship in the Big 12 era.
Wistey earned her second career First Team All-Big 12 honor at the 2014 Big 12 Conference Championships with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, touching in a time of 1:01.62.
