Cyclone Trio Honored As Scholar All-Americans

AMES, Iowa - Three members of the Iowa State swimming and diving team were honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a scholar All-American. Imelda Wistey received scholar All-America honors while Marissa Engel and Bre Loeschke received honorable mention All-America honors.
Wistey, a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, completed one of the best seasons in Cyclone history with a 34th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championship. Wistey recorded 23 individual top-five performances and 12 relay. She was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team.
Engel, a native of Grayslake, Ill., was named Iowa State's Most Improved Swimmer for the 2013-14 season. Engel nine event wins (eight individual, one relay) and 32 top-five performances (26 individual, six relay) including a stretch of 15-consecutive finishes in the top-five over a span of five meets. She also holds four top-15 performances in school history.
Loeschke, a native of New Brighton, Minn., finished fourth at the Big 12 Championship in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.10. She helped lead the 200 medley relay team to two of the top performances in Cyclone history and tallied 34 top-five performances on the season. Loeschke was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 team for her work in the classroom.
To receive the CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American Award, the swimmer must achieve a cumulative or semester GPA of 3.5 or higher and also qualify and compete in the NCAA Championship. For honorable mention, the swimmer must achieve a 3.5 GPA and also a “B” time standard but not qualify for the Championship.
