MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Iowa State soccer team (6-11-0, 0-7-0 Big 12) fell to No. 3 West Virginia (14-1-1, 5-0-1 Big 12), 4-0, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this afternoon.
West Virginia got on the board in the 25th minute when Kailey Utley received an assist from Amanda Hill and Utley buried it. The Mountaineers were able to find a second goal just before halftime when Heather Kaleiohi took advantage of an Iowa State turnover and floated a shot from outside the box and into the top left corner to go into the half at 2-0.
Iowa State continued to battle hard in the second half. The Mountaineers tallied two more goals in the second half coming from Michaela Abam and Hannah Abraham.
Coach Said It
“Where we are at this season and after a tough loss Friday, coming out against the No. 3-ranked team in the country and what they have done lately, scoring six goals against Kansas and four goals against Texas Tech, I think we played hard and battled,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “There were times that we put some really nice things together and showed that we have some quality, but at the end of the day you have to sustain that and be consistent with that for 90 minutes. We just saw a clear demonstration of what it is to play at this level and if we aspire to be there we know what we have to do to get there.”
