MINNEAPOLIS- The Iowa State tennis team fell, 4-1, to No. 70 Minnesota Friday in Minneapolis. The Cyclones are now 2-4, while the Gophers improve to 7-4.
Minnesota put together three solid pairs to challenge the Cyclones, ultimately taking the doubles point early on. Sophomore Sami Budai and senior Ksenia Pronina fell to Tereza Brichacova and Paula Rincon-Otero, 6-3, to clinch the point in doubles play for the Gophers.
Senior Meghan Cassens was the saving grace for the Cyclones, earning the sole win and holding off the Gophers at No. 3 singles. Cassens took down Jessika Mozia, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Alejandra Galvis won the first set at No. 4 singles, 6-3, and led in the second set before the winning point was clinched and the match was abandoned. Senior Ksenia Pronina suffered the same fate, once again leaving a match unfinished for the second time in less than a week.
The Cyclones will stay in Minneapolis to take on Marquette on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
