AUSTIN, Texas – Fourteen Cyclones made trips to the medal stand in the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on day three of the 2015 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. Through 14 events on the week, Iowa State remains in second-place, holding a 47.5-point lead over Kansas in third.
Iowa State wrapped up day three action with a school record time of 1:32.05 in the 200 free relay behind the team of Amanda Paulson (23.16), Savanna Townsend (22.93), Sarah Deis (23.15) and Alex Flatness (22.81).
The Cyclones tackled 13 personal records and posted 16 times inside of Iowa State's all-time top-20 performers list, including a pair of No. 2 performances from the freshmen duo of Kasey Roberts and Mary Kate Luddy in in 100 breast and 400 IM, respectively.
Roberts touched fifth in the A-final with a time of 1:01.38, an NCAA B-cut qualifying team and just 0.92-seconds off the school record set last year by Imelda Wistey. Ali Stearns join Roberts on the podium, finishing eighth in a time of 1:02.76.
In the 400 IM, Luddy raced to a sixth-place finish in a time of 4:19.88, also an NCAA B-cut qualifying time. The freshman standout nearly topped Petra Plaminkova's school record time of 4:19.04 set during the 2001-02 season. Marissa Engel also reached the A-final heat in the event, clocking a time of 4:25.31.
The Cyclones sent three swimmers to the A-final heat of the 100 back in Bre Loeschke, Kaylee Kucera and Marissa Engel, the most of any team in the conference. The trio finished in fifth, seventh and eighth with times of 55.41, 56.18 and 56.40, respectively. Six of Iowa State's all-time top-20 performances in the 100 back her posted on the day.
On the three-meter board, team captain Elyse Brouillette continued her streak of Big 12 Championship finals appearances, advancing past prelims in five consecutive events dating back to last year. Brouillette tallied a score of 283.35, earning an eighth-place finish.
Amanda Paulson took sixth-place in the 100 fly with a time of 55.47, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors, but the performance of the day went to Carissa Poeschel, clocking a prelim time of 55.34. Poeschel's performance ranks her ninth in Iowa State history.
Karyl Clarete claimed her sixth career Big 12 Championship medal, finishing sixth in the 200 free in a time of 1:50.23. China native Silqi Luo cracked ISU's all-time top-20 performers list with a time of 1:50.96, ranking her 11th in school history.

The Cyclones will be back at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center tomorrow at 10 a.m. for preliminary heats of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly. Final heats for all previously listed events plus the 1650 free, platform diving and 400 free relay will begin at 6 p.m. The diving well will open at 2:40 p.m. for prelim heats of the platform event.
