ISU struggled to gain momentum early while the Hawkeyes gained the doubles point. The first win of the day went to Annette Dohanics and Shelby Talcott over senior Ksenia Pronina and sophomore Samantha Budai at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Iowa clinched the doubles point with No. 2 pair Morven McCulloch and Anastasia Reimchen taking down senior Meghan Cassens and junior Ana Gasparovic, 6-3.
Junior Alejandra Galvis earned the sole win of the night in singles action. Galvis took down Katie Zordani, 6-3, 6-2. The newcomer has been proving her worth with the Cyclones recently, earning second place in her bracket at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational this January.
The loss was a missed chance for the Cyclones, who own a 13-9 edge, to clinch the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series and make Iowa State the first of the schools to win the title two years in a row. ISU still has a chance to win, with Gymnastics (March 6) and Softball (April 15) still to compete.
The Cyclones will stay in Iowa City to take on Utah State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
