Iowa State Off to Auburn, Stanford This Weekend

AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State men's and women's track and field teams will head across the map this weekend as both teams are set to compete at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama. Select members of the women's distance squad will head to Palo Alto, California for the Stanford Invitational on Friday.

Henry Kelley will kick of the action for the Cyclones on Friday at the Tiger Track Classic at 2 p.m. on Friday in the hammer throw. The Waukee native looks to improve on the personal best toss of 187-10.00 he threw last weekend at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. Kelley's mark moved him from sixth to fifth on the Iowa State all-time top performers list.

Kayla Sanborn and Anna Holtermann will lead off the women's side of the hammer throw at 4 p.m. Both athletes hold marks in the Iowa State all-time top performers list with Sanborn holding fourth and Holtermann ninth.

Freshman Jhoanmy Luque exploded onto the national scene last weekend during her first career outdoor meet. The Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela native currently ranks 12^th (long jump) and 34^th (triple jump) nationally after the Baldy Castillo Invitational.

Running events are schedule to being on Saturday at noon with the women's 4x100. The Cyclones will begin competition at 12:35 p.m. with the men's 1,500-meter run. Brian Llamas and Toby Hardwick will lead the way for the Cyclones in the race.

Iowa State indoor 400m record-holder Kendra White enters the 400-meter dash ranked 10^th nationally with a time of 53.82 set last weekend at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. The race is scheduled to begin at 1:20 p.m.

Sophomore Derek Jones is set to run the in the 400-meter hurdles. Jones enters the contest ranked 29^th-nationally. Last season at the 2014 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, Jones set the eighth-fastest time (51.02) in the Iowa State all-time performers list.

A number of athletes from the women's side are set to compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. Several distance runners have been accepted into the 1,500m, 3,000m, and 5,000-meter run. They are: Abby Caldwell, Margaret Connelly, Katherine DeSimone, Heidi Engelhardt, Evelyne Guay, Olivia Robertson, Perez Rotich, Colleen Riley, and Erin Hooker. Heat sheets will be posted once finalized.
