Men's 4x800m Team Highlights Day Three at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – A gritty effort by the Iowa State men's 4x800-meter relay team and a series of top-performances by the women's field athletes highlighted a rainy and overcast third day of the Drake Relays.
Brandon Wheat suffered an injury in the opening leg of the 4x800-meter relay, passing the baton to Patrick Peterson in a distant last place. Peterson and Jacob Aune caught the field, as Aune met Ed Kemboi in the exchange zone in 13th-place.
Kemboi anchored the squad with a gutsy split of 1:48.32, overtaking six runners to place the Cyclones sixth in the event. The Kenya native crossed the finish line in sixth-place, clocking a 7:32.34, ranking eighth on ISU's all-time top-performers list.
During her first visit to Drake Stadium, freshman Jhoanmy Luque claimed a fourth-place finish for Iowa State in the long jump with a mark of 19' 9" (6.02m). Fellow Cyclone jumpers Marine Vallet and Hannah Willms finished fifth and 12th in high jump, clearing 5' 8" (1.73m) and 5' 4.5" (1.63m), respectively.
Christina Hillman recorded another top-five performance for Iowa State in the shot put with a fourth-place finish and a toss of 51' 7.25" (15.73m).
On Deck
The Cyclones have a full schedule tomorrow as they return to Drake Stadium and the Jim Duncan Track for day three of the 106th running of the Drake Relays. Anna Holtermann and Kayla Sanborn lead off for Iowa State at 9 a.m. in the hammer throw, and action concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay, scheduled to start at 3:52 p.m.
