RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 34 Iowa State women's golf team is in a tie for 12th after the first round of the NCAA Raleigh Regional at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
The Cyclones shot a first-round 303 this afternoon, led by senior Chonlada Chayanun, who is currently in a tie for ninth after firing a 72 today. LSU is the first-round team leader at 288 behind Madelene Sagstrom's 68. Sagstrom has a one-shot lead over N.C. State's Rachael Taylor in the medalist race.
Chayanun's card featured four birdies, including three birdies and no bogeys on the front nine. Freshman Celia Barquin is tied for 34th after posting a 75 and fellow rookie Nattapan Siritrai shot a 77 to sit in a tie for 55th.
Cajsa Persson carded a 79 and M.J. Kamin fired an 81 to round out the Cyclone first-round scoring.
The second round is tomorrow, followed by the final 18 holes on Sunday.
The top six teams in the tournament will advance to the NCAA Golf Championships, May 22-27 in Bradenton, Fla.
