ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Iowa State Women's Golf team, ranked 39th nationally by Golfweek, posted a solid start to its season by tying for fourth at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Cyclones fired rounds of 295-292-292 for an 879 tally to tie for fourth in the competitive field which featured eight teams ranked in the nation's top-30 according to Golfweek.
Stanford won the team title at 856.
The Cyclones were led by sophomore Celia Barquin, who recorded the sixth top-10 finish of her young career by tying for 10th at 216 (71-73-72). Barquin was 2-over through five holes in the final round today, but rallied to go 3-under in the last 13 holes en route to a 1-under 72.
True freshman Chayanit Wangmahaporn made an auspicious debut as a Cyclone by tying for 23rd at 219. Wangmahaporn posted the low score of the day for the Cyclones by firing a 3-under 70. She had five birdies on her card today.
Nattapan Siritrai and Parinda Phokan tied for 36th at 224 to help the Cyclone effort.
Iowa State is back in action at the Mercedes Intercollegiate, Sept. 21-22 in Knoxville, Tenn.
