AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State divers return to competition for the first time in over three weeks at the UGA Diving Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia, from Jan. 3-5.
The event will follow a championship-style format, with one-meter boards on the first day, followed by three-meter boards on day two and platform diving to round out the competition. Prelim rounds are set for 11 a.m. on the first two days and 10:30 a.m. on the final day, with finals rounds to begin immediately following them.
Joining Iowa State for the competition are host school Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Missouri, SMU, Minnesota, Drexel, Illinois, Clemson and North Carolina State.
Last time out, the Cyclones had their third diver of the season qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships, as freshman Maggie James earned a score of 270.07 on the one-meter board. James also tallied a season-best 241.20 on the three-meter board.
Senior Elyse Brouillette and junior Julie Dickinson also set new season-high scores on the three-meter board with marks of 312.83 and 283.50, respectively.
The UGA Diving Invitational will be Iowa State's third diving invitational of the season. In the last such event – the Hawkeye Invitational in early December – the Cyclones placed two divers in the top-10 on all three days, while Brouillette qualified for finals for each event.
On deck for the Iowa State swimming and diving team is a weekend with two separate dual meets, as the Cyclones will host Illinois on Jan. 15 and Washington-St. Louis on Jan. 16 in Ames, Iowa.
