AMES, Iowa – Iowa State swimmer Kasey Roberts picked up her second CollegeSwimming.com Big 12 Swimmer of the Week honor this season, the organization announced late last night.
Roberts also earned the award Dec. 15, 2015, for her efforts against in-state foe Iowa, which featured four finishes in the all-time top-20 for their event.
This week's award comes on the heels of Iowa State's pair of dual meets last weekend, featuring a close loss to Illinois Jan. 15 and a rout of Washington-St. Louis less than 24 hours later.
Against the Illini, Roberts took first place in the 100 and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:05.01 and 2:19.72, respectfully. She claimed second place in the 200 individual medley, touching in 2:06.60.
In the Cyclones' dual meet against Washington, Roberts swam the breaststroke leg of the first-place 400 medley relay squad in 1:06.95 – the second-fastest breaststroke split of the event.
The St. Michael, Minnesota, native followed that up with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle – an event she usually doesn't swim for the Cyclones – by touching the wall in 1:56.34. She also took the crown in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.61) and led off the second-place 200 freestyle relay team with a split of 25.32 seconds.
On the weekend, Roberts had seven top-two finishes, including three victories in individual events and one in a medley relay.
The Iowa State swimming and diving team travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to face UNI Jan. 23. The meet is set for a 12 p.m. start time at the Glen F. Henry Swimming & Diving Pool at UNI's Wellness and Recreation Center.
