AMES, Iowa – Senior Elyse Brouillette and sophomore Kasey Roberts swept the Big 12 swimming and diving weekly awards, the conference announced Wednesday. Brouillette was named Diver of the Week, while Roberts garnered the Swimmer of the Week honor.
Due to winter break, this week's award encompasses competition since Dec. 9, 2015, through the previous weekend.
It is the second time this season and fourth time in Brouillette's career that she has taken home the award. With the honor, Brouillette also becomes the first Big 12 swimmer or diver to win the award back-to-back times this season.
Brouillette, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, registered a season-high score of 312.83 on the three-meter board Dec. 11, 2015, against Iowa, beating her previous season-best by more than 23 points to take first place.
The Cyclone captain followed up that performance with a score of 267.22 on the one-meter board, marking the fourth-consecutive competition in which Brouillette's one-meter score exceeded the NCAA Zone Championships qualifying mark.
Roberts earned her first career Big 12 Swimmer of the Week honor on the heels of top-three finishes in all four events she swam in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet.
Each event Roberts competed in was significant for the Cyclones not only on the night, but also in a historical context, as all four times that the sophomore registered were top-20 all-time for the event.
The St. Michael, Minnesota, native's strongest performances came in the 200 breaststroke and 200 medley relay.
In the 200 breaststroke, Roberts touched in 2:15.37 for the fifth-fastest time in Iowa State history. In the 200 medley relay, she swam a breaststroke split of 28.32 to help lead the 'A' squad to a 1:41.96 finish and the sixth-best result all-time.
Roberts' times in the 200 IM (2:03.11) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.53) were good enough for 17th and 18th all-time in their events, respectively.
For her accomplishments against Iowa, Roberts also earned CollegeSwimming.com's Big 12 Swimmer of the Week award.
The Iowa State swimming and diving team returns to the pool for two dual meets in as many days Jan. 15 and 16. The Cyclones host Illinois at 4 p.m. on Jan. 15 and Washington-St. Louis at 1 p.m. the next day. Both meets are at Beyer Pool and admission is free.
