AMES, Iowa—The Iowa State gymnastics program announced its 2017 schedule on Thursday. The Cyclones will be hosting five home meet in Hilton Coliseum with six road meets before heading to the Big 12 Championship.
The young team will start of the season with a bang as they host Arizona State for a Beauty and the Beast on Jan. 6. The side-by-side gymnastics and wrestling meet will kick off the 2017 season for ISU gymnastics at 6:30 that Friday night.
One week later the Cyclones will host their second meet of the season with Towson and Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Iowa State will then hit the road for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, Jan. 21 when they travel to Tucson, Arizona to take on Arizona at 5 p.m.
For the first time in school history Iowa State will be hosting two Beauty and the Beast meets in the same season. The gymnastics team will return home on Jan. 27 to face their first conference opponent, Oklahoma, alongside the Cyclone wrestling team. Just two days later on Jan. 29, Iowa State will be competing in Denton, Texas against Texas Woman's University.
After a busy January for the team, February will start off with a home meet against Southeast Missouri and Centenary on Feb. 3. The team will then head back on the road for a tri-meet in Columbia, Missouri. There, the Cyclones will take on Missouri, George Washington, and Lindenwood on Feb. 10.
The Iowa State gymnastics team will close out its home schedule on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The Cyclones will be hosting Illinois State and Gustavus Adolphus in Hilton Coliseum. Though the final home meet is traditionally a senior night for the gymnastics program, this year's unique roster is made up of only juniors and underclassmen. This final home tri-meet will be an excellent opportunity for Cyclone fans to get a glimpse of what is to come in the future of Iowa State gymnastics.
The Cyclones will round out the season with three away meets before heading to the Big 12 Championships. First, they will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia their second conference meet of the season. They will be facing both West Virginia and Maryland at noon on Sunday, Feb. 26.
After an exciting ISU win at the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet hosted at Hilton Coliseum in 2016, the competition will return to Iowa City on Saturday, March 4. The in-state rivals will face-off at 4 p.m. at the Hawkeyes' home territory.
Iowa State will finish off the regular season with an exciting away meet at Alabama on Friday, March 10. They will then travel to Frisco, Texas where the Big 12 Championships will be held at Dr. Pepper Arena for the second year in a row.
The NCAA Regionals will be held on Saturday, Apr. 1 with locations in Lincoln, Nebraska, Athens, Georgia, Champaign, Illinois, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Morgantown, West Virginia, and Seattle, Washington. The NCAA Championships will be held in St. Louis, Missouri from Apr. 14-16.
