RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 18 Iowa State women's golf team is tied for seventh after the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Cyclones fired a 294 in the opening round, 11 shots behind tournament leaders Georgia and Texas Tech at 283.
The tournament is annually one of the most competitive in the nation, and this year is no different. This year's field features nine teams currently ranked in the nation's top-30 according to Golfweek.
The Cyclones were led by Cajsa Persson, who carded a 1-under 71 to sit in a tie for sixth. Persson had five birdies on her card today. Celia Barquin is currently tied for 20th after posting first-round 73 and Parinda Phokan fired a 74 to sit in a tie for 31st.
The second round is tomorrow followed by the third and final round in on Tuesday.
