AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling team (8-5, 1-2 Big 12) is prepped and ready to head to Cedar Falls where they'll take on the Northern Iowa Panthers (3-7, 2-4 MAC). The dual is set to take place in West Gym at 7 p.m. on Friday evening.
In their previous competition, the Cyclones snapped a three dual losing skid against the Central Michigan Chippewas, winning the contest 25-12. ISU won the final five bouts, which included a Lelund Weatherspoon upset-victory over No. 9 Mike Ottinger. Weatherspoon was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his efforts on the mat.

ISU vs. UNI History
- In the all-time series, Iowa State holds a 56-17 advantage over the Panthers
- Last season, the two teams met in Ames. The Cyclones came away victorious, winning the dual 24-12.
- ISU and UNI first met in 1924. Iowa State won the dual, 21-0.
Scouting Northern Iowa
- The Panthers are coached by Doug Schwab, who is in his ninth year at the helm of the program.
- UNI has five ranked wrestlers set to scrap in Friday night's dual. Dylan Peters is ranked No. 7 at 125-pounds, Josh Alber is No. 12 at 133, Bryce Steiert is pegged as No. 19 at 157-pounds, at 165-pounds, Cooper Moore is ranked No. 19 and the heavyweight Blaize Cabell is slotted at No. 16.
- The Panthers have faced a pair of similar foes as Iowa State this season. UNI dropped a tightly contested dual to Virginia Tech, 19-15 in January and fell short against Central Michigan, 22-11 last weekend.
Cyclone Notebook
- No. 16 Iowa State is back on the road this week to face in-state rival, Northern Iowa.
- The Cyclones snapped a three dual losing streak against No. 21 Central Michigan. ISU won the final five bouts of the dual to grab a 25-12 victory over the Chippewas.
- Lelund Weatherspoon improved to 19-9 on the year with an upset victory over No. 9 Mike Ottinger. Weatherspoon defeated the Chippewa senior by 8-3 dec. behind 1:12 of riding-time.
- With his win, Weatherspoon became the third Cyclone to earn Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors this season.
- Tanner Weatherman has been on a roll as of late. He defeated Jordan Atienza in the dual against CMU, 9-3. Since the turn of the calendar into 2016, Weatherman has posted a 12-2 record with five bonus-point victories.
- Currently, Iowa State has five wrestlers with 19 or more wins on the year: Kyle Larson (19) Earl Hall (24) Tanner Weatherman (24) Lelund Weatherspoon (19) and Dane Pestano (20).
- Three Iowa State wrestlers have been pegged in the national rankings this week. Earl Hall (8, 8, 10) Tanner Weatherman (12, 9, 12) and Lelund Weatherspoon (NR, NR, 19) all are receiving national rankings from FloWrestling, IntermatWrestle and TheOpenMat.
- At the Virginia Duals, the Cyclones went 4-0 en route to taking home the 2016 Virginia Duals title. Iowa State defeated No. 5 Virginia Tech in the finals, 16-14.
- Tanner Weatherman posted a tremendous tournament. He wrestled to a 4-0 record with three bonus-point decisions. For his efforts on the mat, he was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.
- Weatherman's performance at the Virginia Duals also earned him Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors.
- To close out 2015, Iowa State competed at the Midlands Championships where they finished in 6th place with 64 team points.
- Four wrestlers notched podium finishes in Evanston. Earl Hall (7th), Gabe Moreno (8th), Tanner Weatherman (2nd) and Lelund Weatherspoon (7th) all took home hardware.
- ISU placed two wrestlers on the podium at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Earl Hall (4th) and Tanner Weatherman (7th).
- Following his 6-2 win over Iowa's Logan Ryan in the Cy-Hawk Dual, Dante Rodriguez was named Co-Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. This was the first time in his career that he's earned these honors.
- In their 51-0 roll over Midland, The Cyclones won six matches by fall, the most by an Iowa State squad since 1998 when ISU defeated Cornell College, 48-6.
- The Iowa State wrestling program is celebrating its 100th year of wrestling this season.
- Head Coach Kevin Jackson is in his seventh season as Iowa State's head coach.
