DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field team earned four event victories Saturday afternoon at the Jim Duncan Invitational. All four of ISU's wins came via the track and the runners at Drake Stadium.
Iowa State's women were responsible for the Cyclones' four wins on the day. Iowa State started its day on the track with a 1-2 finish in the women's 1,500-meter run. Kate DeSimone led the way for the win with a 4:34.15. Coming in behind her was Bethanie Brown, with the 2013 cross country All-American making her first outdoor appearance in nearly two years with a 4:37.56. The Cyclone women earned another mid-distance win in the 800 as Erinn Stenman-Fahey led an Iowa State 1-2-3-4 finish with a best time of 2:08.98. Evelyne Guay (2:11.31), Perez Rotich (2:11.98) and Maddie Nagle (2:13.36) followed Stenman-Fahey on the day.
Iowa State's women also got wins from Alyssa Gonzalez in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 55.77, and Jhoanmy Luque, who won the 100-meter dash in 12.39, a time which was hindered by a headwind.
On the men's side, Chris Celona highlighted the Cyclone effort in the men's hammer throw, as he took second with a best toss of 179-7. The sophomore transfer from Pittsburgh marked his outdoor season debut in style, recording a personal best that was just under 14 feet better than his previous best toss of his career.
