STILLWATER, Okla. – Iowa State junior
Nick Voke had an outstanding first round at the NCAA Stillwater Regional this afternoon, carding a 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for second place in the medalist race.
Stratton Nolen of Oklahoma State holds the first-round lead after posting a 68.
A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Voke had only two bogeys and registered four birdies on the tough Karsten Creek layout. Voke was one of just six players under par in the first round. The Cyclone star must be the top finisher among all players not among the top-five teams to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Voke's closest competition for the lone individual spot is from UMKC's Antoine Rozner, who is tied with Voke after firing a 70 in the first round.
Oklahoma State is in first place in the team race after carding a 285.
Voke returns to the links tomorrow, Tuesday, for the second round of competition at Karsten Creek.
