AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Christina Hillman continues to be recognized for her accomplishments during her time as a Cyclone in and out of competition. The latest recognition came Wednesday afternoon when Hillman was named to the Top 30 for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Hillman is one of 10 nominees from Division I, and has been invited to Indianapolis for a dinner that will recognize all 30 of the nominees and announce the winner of the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
She has been an active participant in many community outreach and campus initiatives during her academic career at Iowa State. She was a volunteer at St. Cecilia Preschool, a research assistant at Network Community Counseling Clinic and a drug education group leader as a Youth and Shelter Services Residential Treatment intern. She has served with Special Olympics, Food at First, Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support and Trans Day of Remembrance Memorial in addition to activities with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Hillman was a star in the classroom, too. She was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection, and the 2016 Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-American of the Year. A four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree, she was also awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, the Big 12's Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Iowa State Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award, ISU Letterwinner's All-Around Award, a "Women Impacting ISU" honoree and a member of the 2015-16 Farm Strong Team and a multi-time All-Cyclone Team member for having the highest GPA in women's track and field.
In competition, had an incredible run in Ames. She was a seven-time First Team All-American, one of four seven-time First Team All-Americans in ISU women's program history. The Dover, Delaware native is a two-time NCAA Champion in the shot put, sweeping the indoor and outdoor titles in 2014. She is also a three-time Big 12 champion in the shot put. Hillman is Iowa State's school record holder in the shot put both indoors (59-6 3/4) and outdoors (58-2), and ranks third in ISU history in the discus (171-1). At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Hillman took ninth place in the shot put.
