Iowa State Gets Six Wins at Hawkeye Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field team picked up six wins Saturday at the Hawkeye Invite at the UI Recreation Building. That load of victories, combined with Ariana Kuhn's win in the women's weight throw on Friday, gives ISU seven event wins to start the 2017 season.
The Iowa State distance crew was responsible for four of those wins today. Dan Curts led an ISU 1-2-3 in the men's 1,000, with Curts crossing in 2:26.37 followed by debutants Roshon Roomes (2:26.43) and Zach Black (2:26.60). Moving up to the mile, Toby Hardwick got the win on the men's side, crossing the line in 4:14.09.
The Cyclones closed the day with a sweep of the 3,000-meter run competitions. Bethanie Brown has not competed indoors since 2014, but started her season off with a win in 10:00.78, with her teammate Megan Schott in second with an indoor personal best of 10:08.57. On the men's side, Greyson Dolezal won the first event of his collegiate track and field career, crossing in 8:30.18.
Jaymes Dennison lived up to the hype in his Cyclone debut, as the two-time NJCAA national champion took a wire-to-wire victory in the men's 400-meter dash in a Hawkeye Invitational meet record of 47.82. Another Cyclone newcomer, sophomore Eric Fogltanz, was right behind him in second with a personal best 48.19, which was also below the previous meet record.
High jumper Katie Reeves got ISU's first win of the day in the women's high jump competition. It came down to a jump-off, but Reeves got the edge over her adversary from UNI by successfully clearing 5-6.

Iowa State returns to Iowa City next weekend for the Larry Wieczorek Invite. Multi-event action begins on Friday at 11 a.m., with field events starting at 1:30 p.m. and track events at 6 p.m. Competition will continue into Saturday.
