LAWRENCE, Kansas – The Iowa State swimming and diving team trails Kansas, 102-48, at the halfway point of the Big 12 Conference showdown. The teams competed in the first eight events of their dual meet Friday night at Robinson Natatorium.
Iowa State's first win of the night came from the out-stretched hand of Keely Soellner, who swam the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:15.05 for the win. Every second of her effort counted, as Kansas' Libby Walker finished less than two seconds behind.
Jayhawk sweeps in the next two events – the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke – helped cushion an early Kansas lead. Danica Delaquis put a halt to the streak of Kansas sweeps in the 100 breaststroke race, in which her second-place time of 1:05.49 was just .36 seconds off the win.
Julie Dickinson led all divers on the one-meter board in the only diving competition of the night, posting a score of 304.80 to earn the top spot by nearly 40 points. Becky Stochl earned 259.35 points to take third place, while Katherine Mueller took fifth for the Cyclones with a score of 221.33.
The night concluded with the 50 freestyle, in which Iowa State's Laura Miksch touched in 24.23 seconds to claim second place. Maddie Rastall finished close behind in fourth place with a time of 24.44 seconds.
The Cyclones will return to the Robinson Natatorium pool Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to round out their dual meet against the Jayhawks.
Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile App and fans can check back at cyclones.com after the conclusion of the meet for a full recap and results.
