VERONA, Wis. - The Iowa State women's golf team locked up the No. 2 seed in the championship bracket at the East and West Match Play Tournament after firing a two-round 575 total (280-295) in the stroke play portion of the tournament this afternoon.
Oregon edged out the Cyclones for the top seed by two shots at 573.
The Cyclones will face Ohio State tomorrow morning in match play. The winner of that match will play the Oregon-Wisconsin winner in the championship match, while the losers will compete for third place on Tuesday.
The Cyclones had an outstanding day, as four players were in the top-10 in stroke play. Junior Chayanit Wangmahaporn led the way for ISU after carding a two-round 143 total (69-74) to tie for fifth. Her first-round 69 was the ninth sub-70 round of her career.
Sophomore Amelia Grohn was right behind Wangmahaporn, tying for seventh at 144 with rounds of 70-74.
Seniors Celia Barquin Arozamena and Nattapan Siritrai tied for ninth at 145.
Match play will begin at 9 a.m., tomorrow
