IRVING, Texas – Iowa State diver Dana Liva has been named the co-Big 12 Diver of the Week for the weeks spanning Dec. 5 to Jan. 9, the conference announced on Thursday. This is Liva's first conference diver of the week award, having spent time in both the Big 12 and the Big Ten.
Liva was awarded for her performance in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet on Dec. 8. In the meet, she notched a NCAA Zone qualifying mark on the one-meter board, scoring a season-best 271.60, good for second place. She also posted a 271.20 to place third on the three-meter.
Liva has been an outstanding addition to the Cyclone diving squad. She currently is the third-best platform performer in school history, highlighted by a 253.20 score on the platform at the Mizzou Invite, good for fourth overall. In addition to her success on the platform, she continues to perform at a high level in the other two disciplines.
"Dana has consistently been one of our top performers all season long," diving coach Jeff Warrick commented on Liva's recognition. "This a great honor for her, and we are very proud of her."
Iowa State diving took a trip over the university holiday to Thunder Bay, Ontario to train. They will be back in action this weekend for Saturday's meet at Northern Iowa.
