IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Wrestling Championship is set for this Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4 in Tulsa, Okla. This morning, the conference announced the pre-seeds and preliminary brackets for the tournament.
Redshirt junior heavyweight Marcus Harrington is Iowa State's highest seeded wrestler at No. 2. The Big 12 received three automatic bids to the NCAA Championships at that weight.
At 141 and 149 pounds, redshirt freshmen Ian Parker and Jarrett Degen are both seeded fourth, respectively. There will be three automatic qualifying spots up for grabs at 141 and five at 149.
Redshirt freshman Sam Colbray and redshirt sophomore Chase Straw are also seeded in the top half of their respective brackets. Colbray is No. 5 at 197 pounds, which will have four automatic qualifying spots. Straw is No. 6 at 157 pounds, which owns three automatic bids.
The Big 12 has four automatic qualifying spots on the line at 184 pounds where redshirt senior Dane Pestano is seeded No. 7.
Freshman Sinjin Briggs and redshirt junior Skyler St. John are seeded No. 9 at 125 and 165 pounds. The most automatic qualifying spots the Big 12 received was at 125 pounds, where they got seven. At 165 pounds, there are six spots.
Redshirt sophomore Markus Simmons is seeded No. 11 and will be battling for one of five automatic bids at 133 pounds. Redshirt junior Danny Bush is the No. 12 seed at 174 pounds, where there are also five automatic bids up for grabs.
The Big 12 Championship begins on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., wrestling through the semifinal matches. The tournament resumes Sunday with medal matches at 12 p.m. and the finals, which are set to begin at 6 p.m.
