COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Iowa State's Jhoanmy Luque wrote another chapter in her outstanding Cyclone career Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Venezuelan picked up a fourth place finish in the women's triple jump with a personal best leap of 44-10 3/4 (13.68m).
For her Iowa State career, Luque is now a five-time First Team All-American and a 10-time All-American. Luque's fourth place finish today also marked her highest NCAA Indoor Championships finish of her career.
Combined with her seventh place finish in the long jump yesterday, Luque picked up seven team points for Iowa State to place the Cyclones tied for 32nd in the team standings.
Luque never fell out of the top-six all-day, as her first leap of 44-0 (13.41m) put her into third. She earned three more leaps while sitting fifth after three rounds, and was in sixth when her big moment came in round four. Luque unleashed the best triple jump of her Iowa State career as her 44-10 3/4 (13.68m) got her up to third place. Though she would drop a slot in the final two rounds, she did put another big leap onto the board with a final-round 44-4 (13.51m).
