Stillwater, Okla. – The Iowa State Tennis Team (8-8, 0-1 Big 12) fell 4-1 to the No. 9 ranked Cowgirls of Oklahoma State at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Cowgirls came out strong early, securing the doubles point by winning two doubles matches. No. 1 duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola's match went unfinished against No. 38 ranked player Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco, going 5-3. Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna fell 6-1 to No. 96 ranked player Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova at No. 2 doubles, while Margarita Timakova and Ekaterina Repina lost 6-2 in their No. 3 doubles match up against No. 47 ranked player Megan McCray and Sami Court.
Junior Annabella Bonadonna was the only Cyclone to win in singles action. Bonadonna, who played as the No. 6 singles player for the Cyclones, dominated her match, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Cowgirl Sami Court. At the No. 1 singles spot, Cancini went 6-2, 2-0 to Babic. Espindola, the No. 2 player, lost her match 6-3, 6-0 against McCray.
Meanwhile, Freeman fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles spot, and Repina was unable to find a win against Guinart, 6-1, 6-3. Margarita Timakova went 6-0, 5-4 in her match against Blanco.
