NORMAN, Okla. – The Iowa State tennis team (8-9, 0-2 Big 12) lost 4-0 to No. 50 Oklahoma on Sunday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
No. 1 doubles duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola started off the contest against Sooners Christiana Brigante and Jasmine Asghar. The pair were unable to secure a win, falling 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna paired up to face Lily Miyasaki and Malene Stripp. Their match went 4-2, unfinished. Margarita Timakova and Ekaterina Repina lost 6-3 against Skyler Miller and Simran Kaur Sethi at the No. 3 doubles position, giving the doubles point to the Sooners.
The Cyclones were unable to come away with a win in singles action despite competitive matches.
Playing at the No. 1 position was Cancini, who went unfinished, 6-0, 5-4, against No. 31 ranked Sooner Miyazaki, while Espindola fell in her No. 2 doubles match versus Asghar, 6-3, 6-3. Erin Freeman was unable to find a victory facing Brigante at the No. 3 doubles position. She fell 6-0, 6-4.
Repina, who played at the No. 4 spot, fell 6-4, 6-3 against Kaur Sethi, while Bonadonna went unfinished, 7-5, 4-2 in her match to Stripp.
Timakova was leading 6-3, 4-3 against Skyler Miller at No. 6 singles but the match went unfinished.
Iowa State will return to action next Saturday, March 24 to face West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia at 11 a.m.
