URBANDALE, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (8-5, 0-0 Big 12) lost 5-2 against the Iowa Hawkeyes at home in an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series showdown.
Doubles duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola played at the No. 1 doubles position against foes Yufei Long and Zoe Douglas, but fell 6-4.
At the No. 2 spot was Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna, who went on to lose their match against Hawkeyes Elise van Heuvelen and Anastasia Reimchen, 7-5. Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova, who played at the third doubles position, went 5-6, unfinished versus Adorabol Huckleby and Montana Crawford.
The Cyclones captured two wins in singles action. Timakova dominated her singles match, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Huckleby at the No. 5 spot. At the No. 3 singles position was Repina, who went up against Douglas. The freshman won, 3-1, Ret. No. 1 singles player Cancini met with Long in a difficult match that entered into three sets. Cancini ended up losing the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Espindola, who played as the No. 2 singles athlete, faced Elise van Heuvelen, but fell 6-4, 6-2. Freeman competed as the No. 4 Cyclone player versus Reimchen, but lost 6-2, 6-3. Bonadonna's match also went into three sets, as she faced Crawford in No. 6 singles action. She lost 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
