AMES, Iowa – The Cyclone swimming and diving coaching staff announced a pair of signings this past week, including Malaysian swimmer Elynn Tan and diver Jessica Coffin.
Tan currently competes for the Penang Swimming Club, coached by Liu Qing Ru. She will come to Iowa State with many awards and honors. She has gold medals at the Malaysia Invitational in the 50-meter freestyle and butterfly, in addition to the 100-meter fly. She has also medaled in similar events at the Malaysian Open and Asian Schools Swimming Championships. Tan holds the Penang State age group record in the 50-meter free and backstroke and the 100-meter free and fly, and was named as the state's 2016 Female Athlete of the Year.
"We're very excited to have Elynn as a part of our program," head coach Duane Sorenson said. "She's a tremendous swimmer and will help us out in [sprint freestyle and the butterfly] and she may have potential to be a very good 200 IMer."
Coffin joins the Cyclones out of Menomonie, Wisconsin. She placed top-two in her conference in 2016 and 2017, while finishing in the top-15 at the state level both years. Coffin comes to Iowa State with some leadership experience, serving as the diving captain during her senior season. She is also a National Honor Society member and an honor roll student.
"I'm looking forward to working with Jessica in the fall," diving coach Jeff Warrick said. "She has a lot of untapped potential, and I know she'll thrive in our team environment."
