AMES, Iowa - Iowa State qualified for its ninth-straight NCAA Regional and produced just its second conference champion (Celia Barquin Arozamena) in school history in a season where it finished ranked in the top-30 nationally.Â
Season Notes
-Iowa State, which ended the season ranked No. 27 nationally by Golfweek, qualified for its ninth-straight NCAA Regional with a berth at the NCAA Madison Regional, finishing 10th in the 18-team field. Â
-ISU finished fourth at the Big 12 Championship, one stroke away from tying for second.Â
-Senior Celia Barquin Arozamena claimed medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship with a three-shot victory over Texas' Emilee Hoffmann at 213 (73-71-69). She was the only player under par (-3) for the tourney and earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors for the second-straight season.Â
-It was Barquin Arozamena's first career tournament title and she became just the second Cyclone in school history to win a conference tournament title (Shelley Finnestad, 1993 Big Eight).Â
-The Cyclones claimed their first tournament win since 2012 with a victory at the East and West Match Play at the same course where the Madison Regional will be played (University Ridge). ISU was the No. 2 seed after stroke play concluded and won the tournament by defeating Ohio State (3-2) and Wisconsin (4-1).
-Iowa State finished runner-up at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, a tournament featuring seven teams ranked in the Golfstat top-50, and was runner-up at the Bruzzy Challenge.Â
-ISU was 4-1 in match play this season, defeating Wisconsin, Ohio State, Colorado and Northwestern.Â
-Barquin Arozamena (2015, 2016, 2018) and Chayanit Wangmahaporn (2016, 2017, 2018) each earned All-Big 12 Team honors for the third time, the first Cyclones in school history to accomplish the feat.Â
-Barquin Arozamena led the team in stroke average (73.21) and top-10 finishes (5). She earned runner-up medalist honors at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.Â
-Barquin Arozamena and Wangmahaporn were ranked No. 69 and No. 81 in the nation, respectively, by Golfweek.Â
-Barquin Arozamena tallied 16 top-10 performances in her career, tying for second in school history, and compiled the best career stroke average in school history (73.44).
-Wangmahaporn has the second-best career stroke average in school history (73.53) and has 10 career sub-70 rounds.Â
-Wangmahaporn was second on the team top-10 finishes (4) and scoring (74.04).
-Amelia Grohn was first on the team in eagles (4) and fourth in stroke average at 75.89.Â
-Freshman Alanna Campbell was third in stroke average (74.61), top-10 finishes (2) and birdies (69). Â
-Campbell's stroke average is the fifth-best by an ISU freshman in school history.Â
