IRVING, Texas – Iowa State senior Celia Barquin Arozamena was named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for April, announced today by the Big 12 office.
A native of Puente San Miguel, Spain, Barquin Arozamena has established herself as one of the greatest golfers in school history and further cemented her legacy by winning the 2018 Big 12 Championship.
Barquin Arozamena joined Shelley Finnestad (1993 Big Eight) as the only two Cyclones to win a conference tournament with a three-shot victory (73-71-69=213) at the Dallas Athletic Club on April 22.
The three-time All-Big 12 selection averaged 72.66 strokes per round and placed in the top-five in both of her April tournaments, tying for fourth at the Bruzzy Challenge. She defeated 14 players ranked in the top-100 during the month.
Ranked No. 69 nationally by Golfweek, Barquin Arozamena leads the team in stroke average (73.32) and top-10 finishes (5). Her career 73.47 stroke average ranks No. 1 in school history and her 16 top-10 finishes ties for second in the ISU career record book.
Iowa State will compete in the NCAA Madison Regional, May 7-9 in Madison, Wis.
