Iowa State, Six Cyclones Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Honors

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team for the spring 2018 semester, while six student-athletes earned honorable mention Scholar All-America honors.
As a team the Cyclones earned a 3.58 semester GPA, which ranked in the top-35 among the other Scholar All-America teams.
"In the fall, the team set a season goal of achieving the highest team GPA in school history," head coach Duane Sorenson said. "They achieved the highest team GPA by semester in the Fall semester then did even better this Spring semester with an amazing team GPA of 3.58. They finish the school year achieving their season goal with a team GPA of 3.58. I would like to thank our Athletics Department's Academic Coordinator, Jeff Cesler for his leadership and guidance. He does an excellent job setting our women up to be so successful in the classroom."
Danica Delaquis, Dana Liva, Mary Kate Luddy, Laura Miksch, Sydney Ronald and Haley Ruegemer earned honorable mention honors after receiving a 3.5 GPA or higher and tallying an NCAA 'B' cut time during the season.
"I am very proud of what these six women accomplished this past season both in the pool and classroom," Sorenson said. "All of them were Big 12 Championship meet finalists in their events and they all earned Dean's List Honors this Spring semester."
Scholar All-America Team honors are given to teams that achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher over the spring semester. The five Big 12 women's swimming and diving programs were all recognized as Scholar All-America teams.
Iowa State swimming and diving placed 20 student-athletes on the Dean's list, including four Cyclones with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester.
