Dennison will be looking to cap off an outstanding two years in Ames with style in his Eugene debut. The New Jersey native's advancement in the 800 came against impressive fields, which will help him as the competition continues to get deeper. Among his competition in his Wednesday prelim heat is Penn State's Isaiah Harris, who ran for Team USA in the 800 at the 2017 World Championships, Indiana's Daniel Kuhn (1:46.06 this season), Pac-12 champ Robert Ford of USC and Drake Relays champ Erik Martinsson of UT-Arlington.
Fogltanz has been outstanding in the 400-meter hurdles this season, continuing to drop his best times on a regular basis. Running out of lane eight in his heat on Wednesday, Fogltanz's heat features three guys who have gone below 50 seconds this season.
The men's 4x400 will be at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time since 1986. The quartet became the No. 3 relay in ISU history with their 3:05.40 at NCAA West Prelims. ISU will be in heat two, looking to advance out of a group that includes Houston (3:01.82 this year), Baylor (3:03.44), Oregon (3:04.36) and North Carolina A&T (3:04.75).
Kurgat will be waiting for his moment until Friday, but he has shown in his six months as a Cyclone what kind of resume he has. The Big 12 5K and 10K champion outdoors, Kurgat has shown the ability to go fast and race tactically, both of which are crucial in a race that has gone both speeds over the years at NCAA Outdoors. While Kurgat is the lone Big 12 guy in the 5,000, there will be plenty of familiar faces that Kurgat has competed against this season at the Iowa State Classic and Stanford Invitational.
