PENATI GOLF RESORT, Slovakia – Former Iowa State golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena continued her recent outstanding play by winning the European Ladies Amateur at the Penati Golf Resort in Slovakia this morning.
Barquin Arozamena captured the prestigious title with a 72-hole score of 272 (16-under), defeating Esther Enseleit by one stroke.
The Puente San Miguel, Spain, native, who held a two-shot lead after 54 holes, posted a final-round 69 to claim the trophy. She finished her final 36 holes without a single bogey.
Barquin Arozamena was five shots out of the lead after 36 holes, but shot to the top with a sizzling 63 (9-under) in round three. She had nine birdies and nine pars en route to the lowest competitive round of her career and a new course record.
Barquin Arozamena has had a brilliant last four months on the links. She won the 2018 Big 12 individual title in April to become just the second conference medalist in Iowa State history. In May, she qualified for the U.S. Women's Open.
Her victory today earns her a spot in next year's Ricoh Women's British Open.
The three-time All-Big 12 selection was named Iowa State's Female Athlete of the Year for 2017-18.
